Customer pain points
As the quality and diversity of social and cultural life continue to improve, public demand for enhanced digital public cultural services has grown significantly. In May 2022, the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council issued the 'Opinions on Promoting the Implementation of the National Cultural Digitalization Strategy,' which identifies 'improving the digitalization level of public cultural services' as a key task of this national strategy. As early as June 2021, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's '14th Five-Year Plan for Public Cultural Service System Construction' had already designated 'advancing the digital, networked, and intelligent development of public cultural services' as a primary objective.
Changning Library serves as a pilot project for Shanghai's smart library initiative, having launched multiple intelligent reading scenarios and service systems since 2021. Working in collaboration with SenseTime, Changning District Library has co-developed Shanghai's first 'Smart Library,' delivering a rich, user-friendly reading experience while demonstrating advanced construction concepts, innovative reading environments, and the public nature of cultural services. This initiative has significantly advanced the intelligent transformation of library services. -
Cooperation Plan
By integrating SenseTime's cutting-edge AI technologies with the smart reading initiatives promoted by Changning District's Culture and Tourism Bureau, Changning District Library has created a rich, user-friendly reading experience for patrons. This is achieved through applications such as SenseTime's 'digital humans,' 'book-delivery robots,' mobile applets, and 'smart bookcases,' combined with various intelligent reading devices. The implementation demonstrates the library's advanced conceptual design, innovative reading scenarios, and public service orientation, significantly advancing its intelligent transformation. -
Implementation results
SenseTime has deeply integrated its cutting-edge AI technologies into library scenarios, empowering Changning Library's end-to-end intelligent book borrowing and returning services. From intelligent interaction and appointment systems to personalized book recommendations and automated book delivery, the solution delivers a fully digitalized reading experience that truly advances smart library services.
The AI-powered digital librarian 'Xinye' was developed using SenseTime's latest digital human technology, incorporating advanced computer vision, natural language processing, and decision intelligence. By analyzing big data to understand individual reading preferences, Xinye can recommend popular and personalized books, while assisting with book borrowing and seat reservations. Capable of engaging in natural, lifelike conversations with expressive gestures and facial expressions, Xinye significantly enhances human-computer interaction. The recommendation algorithm, specially tailored for library scenarios, continuously improves its suggestions based on usage patterns, ensuring readers discover books better suited to their interests while maximizing the value of each book in the library's collection.
Changning Library offers two reading options: 'In-Library Reading' and 'Self-Service Pickup.' For 'In-Library Reading,' after seat reservation and check-in, an AI-powered smart reading robot delivers the selected books directly to the reader's seat. Upon successful verification code input, the robot's 'compartment' automatically opens to complete the borrowing process. After reading, the same robot facilitates convenient returns. For 'Self-Service Pickup,' readers can opt for a contactless mode using SenseTime's touch-free smart cabinets to retrieve their reserved books at any time, significantly improving the convenience of book borrowing and returning.
